Magic Notes is an app for a single magic trick. This page explains how it goes, the things that usually trip people up, and where to write if none of that helps.

The trick in four steps
- Open a note: tap an existing one or create a new one at the bottom right.
- Ask your question and type anything into the note. It does not have to mean anything.
- Put the phone face down on the table. Only now does the microphone turn on.
- The number is said out loud. Turn the phone over: it is in the note, and the microphone is off again.
Three seconds after you pick the phone up, a next-round button appears above the edit bar. Tap it: the note is empty, the microphone is live again, and you carry on at step 2. The same manual sits in the app, as the last note in the list.
When it does not work
No number appears.
The most common reason: the phone was not flat enough, or not face down. In any other position the app deliberately does not listen. Put it flat on a solid surface and try again.
The second most common: missing permission. In iOS Settings under “Magic Notes”, check that Microphone and Speech Recognition are allowed.
The app never asks for permission.
It asks when you open a note, not at launch. If you declined once, iOS will not ask again. The way back is through Settings → Magic Notes.
The wrong number is shown.
The last number said always wins, as long as the screen is still on the table. Speech that is mumbled or very quiet can be misheard. Have the number said clearly at normal volume, and make sure the app is set to the language being spoken.
The app is in German and I perform in English.
The language switch in settings (the gear in the list) changes the whole app: recognition, list, note titles, manual. It does not follow your iPhone’s language, so a German iPhone can perform in English.
My typed note is gone.
That is by design. The notes are scenery: they take typing, nothing is saved. Use your notes app for real notes.
The next-round button does not appear.
It only shows once the round is over: the answer is written and the phone has been picked up, then after three seconds. If it does not appear, go back to the list with the arrow; opening a note again starts a fresh round.
Does it run on iPad or in the Simulator?
The app is built for iPhone. Without motion data there is no “lying flat”, and without a real microphone there is no recognition.
Privacy in one paragraph
No account, no sign-in, no advertising, no tracking, no network connection. The microphone only runs while the app is open and the screen is face down, speech recognition runs on the device, and nothing is stored. The details are in the privacy policy.
